It's Baby Shower Season!

It's Baby Shower Season!

It’s Baby Shower Season! It can be hard to find that perfect baby shower gift — but Miki Miette has some simple baby shower gift ideas that are perfect for any expectant mom! Whether she’s a first timer or an experienced mom to be, we’ve filled this post with a few of the best baby shower gift ideas for girls and boys, so let’s get started! Gift Basket Necessities Since some parents skip the registry altogether, you have an extra challenge when heading out to pick a gift. Not to worry, a basket of necessities is always a great idea! Put together a basket with some baby shampoo, body wash, sunscreen, and body lotion from brands like Babyganics or Honest Company. Top it off with some super cute accessories, like one of our reversible Layette beanies, which comes in five sweet colors.   Swaddling Accessories  A recent obsession of ours (which you may have seen here on our blog or in our flagship store) is the Swaddle Scarf from Coveted Things. Take our word for it that this is the absolute best baby blanket money can buy. Coveted Things Swaddle Scarves are so soft and stylish, and it’s such a great baby shower gift idea as it can be used by parents as scarves, tapestries, and travel blankets!   Classic Wooden Toys  You can never go wrong with a classic, and wooden toys make especially great baby gifts. They’re beautiful, durable, and completely safe for children to play with and even chew on. Our top suggestions include the toys from Magnetic Safari Animals from Vilac.   Vilac has been making toys since 1911 in the forests of Eastern France and they embrace the area’s woodworking heritage by creating beautiful and award-winning toys. One of our favorite sets was designed by artist Ingela P. Arrhenius and includes four animals, a zebra, a giraffe, a leopard and a lion. Each animal is made up of several wooden and magnetic blocks that allows you to put them together to create the animals or mix and match to go wild!   The Sleep Sack  Last but not least is our Sleep Sack Romper from the Spring 17 Layette collection. This sweet little number is one of our absolute favorite baby shower gift ideas, and is an all-time best seller in-store and online.   You can let your little one wear it as a romper while they practice crawling all over the place, and then, with just a few quick snaps, it converts into a comfy sleep sack for nap time. The rompers come in several colors and are made with super soft, baby safe fabrics for ultimate durability and comfort. Check out our entire Layette collection for a selection of rompers, tees, and shorts for even more ideas!   Finding the Perfect Gift  Whether you’re attending a baby shower for a boy, a girl, or a mystery gender reveal, Miki Miette has some of the best baby shower gift ideas for you. We hope we’ve given you some fun solutions and inspiration to find all the baby shower gifts you need! Stop by in-store or shop online to find the toys, clothes, and other necessities you’re looking for today.

Coveted Things Pop-Up

Coveted Things Pop-Up

We’re excited to announce this Saturday 5/20 we have a very special pop-up event in our flagship children’s and baby clothing boutique, featuring amazing baby swaddle blanket brand, Coveted Things! Coveted Things was started by Meridith Layne when she was 8 months pregnant with her second child. She recognized there was a void in the baby blanket market for unique, contemporary blankets that parents could use to give their nurseries more modern and updated looks. With a background in textiles, apparel manufacturing and business, Meridith found this an easy void to fill and created Coveted Things and the Swaddle Scarf. Their trademark Swaddle Scarves are made with high quality super soft GOTS certified organic cotton and printed with non toxic inks. They make amazing baby shower gifts for boys and girls, and over time will become a keepsake that you and yours will want to hold onto for years to come. Pair a Swaddle Scarf with one of our best selling layette onesies for the perfect baby shower gift! We first came across Meridith and Coveted Things through a mutual friend here in Los Angeles, and immediately fell in love with the soft scarves, clever sayings and found an instant connection with another mom-owned business. Come out this Saturday 5/20 for a shopping event supporting LA mom business owners connecting through friends and supporting each other. Check out the full collection at covetedthings.com and stop by our flagship in downtown Culver City this Saturday!

Top Family Friendly Summer Activities

Top Family Friendly Summer Activities

Drive In Movies - Bring the family out and pop off the convertible top to catch the latest flicks at your local drive in movie theater.  Skip the concession stands and bring your own homemade popcorn to catch the double feature. Show your kiddo’s what all the rage was in the 1950’s and 60’s. Check out the drive in directory, Drive-Ins.com to find your nearest location. Outdoor Movies - Break out your picnic basket and blanket, sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Outdoor theaters have become a hot ticket in the U.S. Locations range from parks, rooftops, patios, open air shopping malls and cemeteries. The best part? It can also be a food truck haven. Culture At The Park- All throughout the summertime, local parks and community organizations put together free events like Shakespeare at the park, art workshops and fitness classes. Major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago host events every weekend of the summer. For the smaller towns, we suggest looking at your community calendars on your county’s official website. Water Activities - The sun’s out and the weather is hot! There’s an endless list of water activities for the great outdoors, in your backyard or at an amusement park. You can fish, canoe, sail or take a paddle boat ride. Set up a slip n slide, inflatable pool and have a water ballon fight in the comfort of your own backyard. And of course, there are waterparks where you can lay on a raft in a lazy river lagoon or fly down a massive water slide. You might want to check to see if a Slide The City event is coming to a town near you. Concerts-  Our idea of the perfect summer evening would be catching a symphony at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. Did we mention that it’s BYOB (or food)?  If you can’t get to LA, search for free outside venues with concerts in your area.

Get to Know Us -- Miki Miette

Get to Know Us -- Miki Miette

Have you ever wondered how brands get their name?  Well, you don’t have to wonder how we did. My name is Sawako and I’m the owner of Miki Miette.  Miki Miette consists of two kids names that I always liked. Miki is a boy’s nickname in Japan. This name always resonated with me, as I love cute unisex names and Japanese design. And Miette is the little girl’s name from one of my favorite films of all time – The City of Lost Children by French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Miette is a strong, old soul with a soft heart. I really believe that all facets of girlhood should be celebrated from birth, not just the delicate and pretty, but the rambunctious, eccentric and unconventional as well. My little dudes and little gals line represents all of those qualities, in both boy and girl.
